Description:
This engaging workshop combines felt sheets, cloth and simple embroidery stitches to create a festive 9”x16” decorative wall hanging. We are hanging onto summer by creating a floral wall hanging. Using simple embroidery stitches and the fabric of your choice, we will learn and spend meditative time stitching the project together. Join us to kickstart a relaxing new hobby and create a memorable piece of art.
Week One: Participants will learn six embroidery stitches to be used to attach their selected cloth to create the mini-quilt design. We will practice stitches using a sampler format to gain comfort with the material and movement/placement of needle to form specific stitches.
Weeks Two and Three: Time to cut and place fabric to the quilt design base (muslin). Once placed, participants will use the embroidery stitches learned in week one to attach the design. The project is personalized by fabric selection and the choice of embroidery stitches used.
Weeks Four and Five: We will cut and hand sew the base for the panel design, then attach the front of the quilt to the back, using a simple blanket stitch.
*** Materials needed for first class: 6 inch embroidery hoop, 1 color embroidery thread, 1 crewel embroidery needle. A kit containing these items will be available in class for $5. Additional materials such as felt and fabric will also be needed - details will be provided on the first day of class. ***
